Kodokan Judo, as devised and developed by Jigoro Kano, was first of all a method for ethical and moral training by the use of physical exercise.
Since the introduction of Judo into the Olympic Games it has steadily lost more and more of the ethical and moral aspect and become , for many, a purely physical sport - where winning is the most important factor.
a few people in Sweden (including myself - when I live there) have been warning for the drift away from the ethical and moral side of judo.
What has happened recently is probably only the tip of an iceberg.
For one club it is an unfortunate revelation, but I am sure that the trend is to be found in many other clubs around Sweden (and indeed the rest of the world).
More and more judoka with a few medals in their pockets are being put forward as leaders and examples for other club members.
(I have no idea if the leaders in the club in question have a "contest career" behind them.
But I would be very surprised to hear that they did not have a few medals behind their names.
Judoka who have been brought up to win medals, at any cost, have no idea of the moral and ethical aspects of Kanos traditional Kodokan Judo.
I can hear many protests being raised against my presumptions - but I am firmly convinced that the latest revelations are a direct consequence of the steady decline in the moral and ethical side of Judo as many clubs try to justify their success and existence on contest results!!!
Even the direction taken by SJF is in most cases directed towards the contest side of Judo at the expense of the basic original concepts of Judo.

I think the Swedish phrase is "som man bäddar...........!!"

Sorry I always write in English. I do this to be sure that what I write is what I think. Sorry if it is difficult for some of you.
However I can understand Swedish. If you have any reactions - feel free to write in Swedish.

I see that "jahaså" has started a thread "Etikdiskussion" on the "Öppengdojo".
If the moderator feels it is correct I would like him to move this thread "Moral decline of Judo" and integrate it into "Etikdiskussion".
Leave out my "The moral decline of Judo" heading and just move my posting into the "Etikdiskussion" thread.
Feel free to delete this thread after that.

By the way I have had 4 or 5 emails from readers of this Forum supporting my thought!!

Tyvärr så finns inte möjligheten att flytta en tråd in i en annan, man kan endast flytta till andra forum.
